Determining Your Foundation Color

You must first determine the undertone of your skin. Undertone is the subtle hue beneath your skin's surface. It can be cool (pink or rosy), warm (yellow or golden), or neutral (a mix of both). Knowing your undertone is key to choosing a foundation that complements your natural skin tone and makes your complexion look radiant.

WARM TONED
• The veins on your wrist appear to have a greenish hue
• While holding a sheet of white paper next to your face in natural light, your skin appears to be yellow or golden
• You tend to look best in gold tone jewelry
• Shades of rust, mustards, and green clothing complement you best

COOL TONED
• The veins on your wrist appear blue or purple
• While holding a sheet of white paper next to your face in natural light, your skin appears to be rosy or pink
• You tend to look best in silver tone jewelry
• Shades of black, blue, pink, and teal complement you best

NEUTRAL TONED
• You are unable to determine if the veins on your wrists are either blue or green hued
• While holding a sheet of white paper next to your face in natural light, you are unable to detect a hue of golden or rose
• Your skin looks radiant in any shade of clothing

If you are neutral toned, it is ideal to actually shift from warm to cool foundation (and back again!) with the seasons. For example, in the colder months – when presumably you are getting less sun – I would opt for a Loose Mineral Foundation in the Cool category – shade1, 2 or 3. As the weather becomes warm and you are naturally getting a sun-kissed tan, I would shift to Loose Mineral Foundation in the Warm category – shade1, 2 or 3.

SHADES
When in doubt, choose a lighter shade over a darker one.  It is easier to adjust your shade with bronzer and contour than it is to adjust your application to a lighter shade.

Loose mineral makeup is incredibly forgiving, and easy to adjust with contour, bronzer, and blush. If you feel you have chosen a shade that is too light, save this for days you wish for a more subtle look, or simply add a few taps of a darker shade into the cap and create a custom blend.  Be mindful if your skin shade adjusts easily throughout the seasons and consider multiple shades so you may custom adjust your application accordingly.
